150th Fighter Wing

150th Fighter Wing
This storied Air National Guard fighter wing saw its last F-16 fighters depart in 2010. It is now going to be a classic associate unit of the 58th Special Operations Wing at Kirtland AFB.

The primary mission for the soon to be renamed 150th Wing will be flying training for the HC-130P King and the MC-130P Combat Shadow four-engine turboprops, as well as the HH60 Pave Hawk and the UH-1 Iroquois helicopters. Secondary missions for the 150th Wing will be rapid deployment engineering, power production and intelligence targeting.

AFTL Directed Energy Directorate

Air Force Research Laboratory Directed Energy Directorate
Develops, integrates, and transitions science and technology for directed energy to include high-power microwaves, lasers, adaptive optics, imaging and effects to assure the preeminence of the United States in air and space.

AFTL Space Vehicles Directorate

Develops and transitions high pay-off space technologies supporting the warfighter while leveraging commercial, civil and other government capabilities to ensure America’s advantage.

505th Distributed Warfare Group

705th Combat Training Squadron
Provides high-fidelity theater synthetic battlespaces and world-class exercise control to support joint distributed warfighter training, testing and experimentation across the operational and tactical levels of war.


Missile Defense Agency

Missile Defense Agency
Develops and fields an integrated, layered, ballistic missile defense system to defend the United States, its deployed forces, allies, and friends against all ranges of enemy ballistic missiles in all phases of flight.

The Airborne Laser Systems Program Office at Kirtland AFB is a research and development program currently undergoing organizational changes which will be announced. The 747 Test Aircraft is not based at Kirtland AFB.

Provides the highest quality training of pararescuemen and combat rescue officer personnel capable of worldwide deployment for rescue and recovery operations.

Provides the means necessary to field Tier 2 and 3 space capabilities in order to meet Joint Force Commanders’ urgent needs for on-demand space support, augmentation or reconstitution, and when directed, supports the achievement of Tier 1 response times in coordination with other members of the National Security Space enterprise.
