58th Special Operations Wing

Trains advanced helicopter and MC-130 aircraft crews for special operations worldwide.

  • Approximately 1,500 military, civilian and civilian contract personnel employed
  • More than 30 aircraft assigned to train an average of 1,600 students a year
  • Helicopters assigned include HH-60 Pave Hawk, UH-1 Huey, TH-53A, MH-53J Pave Low III
  • Fixed-wing aircraft assigned include four-engine modified MC-130H Combat Talon II, MC-130P Combat Shadow
  • Operates a helicopter stage field south of KAFB
  • Sophisticated simulators save money and expand training
  • Has saved 200+ lives during rescue missions
  • Part of the Air Education and Training Command
  • Awaiting delivery of the CV-22 "Osprey" tiltrotor aircraft. This special aircraft will fulfill the Air Force's Special Operations requirement for high-speed, long-range vertical and short takeoff and landing aircraft capable of low visibility, adverse weather clandestine operations.
