Airborne Laser Systems Program Office

Charged with building a revolutionary airborne laser weapons and defense system.

  • Employs about 60 military and civilian people
  • Number two modernization program in the Air Force, behind the F-22 Raptor Fighter Aircraft now being tested
  • Developing airborne laser system to be mounted on Boeing 747 aircraft. Will destroy attacking theater ballistic missiles shortly after they are launched
  • Will "change the world" shortly after the turn of the century by providing surgical, high payoff, boost-phase destruction of multiple tactical ballistic missiles launched from random sites at long ranges while staying well within friendly airspace
  • An Air Force Materiel Command unit
