Air Force Research Laboratory Space Vehicles Directorate

Develops, demonstrates and transitions technologies and advanced concepts to support evolving military requirements to control and exploit space.

  • Approximately 750 military and civilian employees
  • Seeks to better understand space between the earth and sun and its effects on military systems and operations
  • Produces geophysical models and databases, design standards and prototype hardware and software
  • Conducts ground, airborne, balloon and space experiments to gather data and demonstrate technologies and advanced military concepts
  • Develops, integrates and demonstrates technologies for smaller, lighter, cheaper high-performance spacecraft
  • Develops and demonstrates technologies supporting space capability protection including protection for natural and man-made threats
  • An Air Force Materiel Command unit reporting to the Air Force Research Laboratory in Ohio
