Critical Assets With a nuclear research maintenance tradition continuing to this day, Kirtland is the single manager for development, engineering technical support, maintenance and storage of critical assets. Starting with the Department of Energy, Sandia National Laboratories (operated for the DOE by Lockheed Martin Corp.) and continuing with the field office of the Defense Threat Reduction Agency, the Nuclear Weapons Product Support Center and the 377th Air Base Wing's Munitions Squadrons, Kirtland AFB is the critical asset center of the Department of Defense, as well as a Department of Energy Nuclear Center. |
